Questions Answered
How long does a paver patio installation take?
Most paver patio projects take 3–7 days depending on size and complexity. A simple 200 sq ft patio can often be completed in 3–4 days, while larger projects with curves, borders, or integrated features may take a full week. We'll give you an estimated timeline during your free consultation.
What's the difference between a retaining wall and a garden wall?
A retaining wall holds back soil and manages grade changes — it's structural. A garden wall is primarily decorative, used to frame beds or create visual interest. Both can be beautiful, but retaining walls require proper engineering, drainage, and a compacted base to handle the lateral pressure of soil behind them.
Do pavers require maintenance?
Pavers are very low-maintenance compared to concrete or wood decking. We recommend an annual sweep and occasional power wash. Polymeric sand between joints should be replenished every few years. If a single paver cracks (rare), it can be individually replaced without redoing the entire surface.
Do you do above-ground pool base prep and leveling?
Yes. We do full pool site prep — excavation, grading to within 1/2 inch across the full pool diameter, 2 inches of compacted screenings, and a paver sand top layer. Optional 16"x16" patio block pads under each leg are recommended on softer soil. Typical job is a half day to a full day depending on slope and pool size. See our full pool prep process above or read the long-form guide.
What kind of sand do you use under an above-ground pool?
Concrete sand (sometimes called paver sand or leveling sand) on top of a compacted screenings base — not mason sand. Mason sand is too fine, doesn't compact, and leaves visible footprints and depressions under the pool liner. Concrete sand is coarser, locks together when compacted, and provides the smooth supportive surface the liner needs. Pool manufacturers (Intex, Bestway, Coleman) typically specify concrete sand for this reason.
How much does hardscaping cost in Lincoln, NE?
Hardscaping costs vary widely based on materials, project size, and complexity. Why Lucky Landscapes
The Crew Learned This
Building for Other Companies
Before Lucky, our crew spent years setting patios, walls, and grades for other Lincoln landscaping companies and contractors. Now we build under our own name — 6 inches of compacted base under residential patios, geotextile fabric, edges that hold — and back it with our own walkthrough guarantee.
Specialty Service
Above-Ground Pool
Base Prep
We also handle the excavation, compacted base, and leveling most big-box pool installers skip. A 24-foot pool full of water weighs over 60,000 lbs — the base under it matters more than the pool itself.
Excavation & Leveling
Strip sod, dig to firm subsoil, and grade level to within 1/2 inch across the entire pool diameter. A 1-inch slope on a 24-foot pool puts 1,400 lbs of uneven pressure on the wall.
Compacted Screenings Base
2 inches of 1/4-minus screenings (crusher fines) compacted in lifts with a plate compactor. This is what keeps the pool legs from sinking unevenly after a wet summer.
Paver / Leveling Sand Top
Thin layer of concrete (paver) sand over the screenings for a smooth surface under the liner. We don't use mason sand — it's too fine and leaves footprints under the liner.
Optional Pad Blocks
Pre-cast 16"x16" patio blocks under each leg for long-term load distribution. Cheap insurance against a leg punching down into the base. Recommended on softer soil.
Typical job is a half-day to full-day of prep, quoted standalone or bundled with a paver walkway, pool patio, or fence install. Read the full guide on how we do it →
